Detroit Fumbles Again — Rams Slide In Like “Oh, You Still Shopping?”

Just when the Detroit Lions thought they had their man, the Los Angeles Rams swooped in like that friend who buys the last item in your Amazon cart. Cornerback Roger McCreary is now a Ram, leaving Detroit staring at its empty trade wishlist — and probably muttering a few choice words under their breath.

Rams Strike Fast, Lions Still Loading the Page

With the Nov. 4 trade deadline looming, the Lions were expected to make a move to fix their secondary woes. Instead, the Rams grabbed McCreary from the Tennessee Titans, sending a 2026 fifth-round pick and getting a 2026 sixth-rounder in return. It’s not a blockbuster, but it’s enough to make Detroit fans go, “Seriously? That’s all it took?”

Detroit’s Defense Needs a Lifeline — Not a Refresh Button

The Lions’ secondary has been hanging on by duct tape and caffeine. DJ Reed and Terrion Arnold are still injured, Rock Ya-Sin is recovering from cramps, and the backups sound more like practice-squad trivia answers than NFL starters. McCreary wasn’t perfect — he’s allowed 250 yards and two touchdowns this season — but he was at least available.

Brad Holmes Has Work to Do

Now, GM Brad Holmes has to act fast before the deadline hits. Last year’s injury spiral cost Detroit dearly, and this year’s team can’t afford another late-season stumble. The Lions might be 5-2, but if Holmes doesn’t find another trade target soon, they could end up watching the playoffs the same way the Rams just watched them miss this deal — from the other side.
