Hendon Hooker’s future with the Lions is anything but certain. Once considered a possible heir to Jared Goff, the former third-round pick is now in a battle just to secure the No. 2 quarterback job. GM Brad Holmes made it clear that Hooker will have to earn his spot, with veteran Kyle Allen also in the mix for the backup role.
Detroit’s decision to sign Allen signals that the team isn’t handing Hooker anything. While he’s had time to develop after recovering from a torn ACL, he has yet to lock down a firm role. With Jared Goff firmly established as the team’s starter and coming off a career-best season, Hooker’s focus will be proving he belongs as Detroit’s long-term QB option.
