With no clear third wideout behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, the Detroit Lions are doing their homework—and they just brought in one of the fastest risers in the draft.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Lions hosted Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden for a Top-30 visit over the weekend. Golden turned heads at the Combine by blazing a 4.29 in the 40-yard dash, the fastest among all receivers. That kind of speed has him flying up draft boards, with some analysts now slotting him into the first round.
Golden’s junior season with the Longhorns was electric. After transferring from Houston, he racked up 987 yards and 9 touchdowns on 58 catches—leading Texas in both yards and TDs. His game stretches all three levels, and scouts love his agility, body control, and willingness to make tough grabs in traffic. Lance Zierlein even sees him becoming a quality starter within his first two years.
Detroit desperately needs a long-term WR3, especially with Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond both approaching their mid-30s and entering contract years. Golden could be a perfect fit—bringing track speed, versatility, and upside to a Lions offense that’s one weapon away from being truly terrifying.
