Detroit Lions’ 2025 Free Agency: Evaluating Their Early Signings

The Detroit Lions have kicked off free agency, and fans are split on how things are going so far. Some are still confident the team can make a Super Bowl run, while others are looking at what teams like the Rams and Commanders are doing and wondering if Detroit is doing enough.

Coming off a 15-win season, expectations were high that GM Brad Holmes would make a big splash—especially to address the team’s biggest need: a dominant edge rusher. But so far, it looks like the Lions are planning to address that hole in the draft instead of free agency.

Some analysts have given the Lions’ free agency efforts a “B” grade, acknowledging that while the team has made solid moves, they haven’t landed that game-changing pass rusher. The reality is, top-tier edge rushers are in high demand, and prices have skyrocketed. The Cardinals reportedly outbid Detroit for Josh Sweat, and other top pass rushers are signing massive deals that the Lions either can’t—or won’t—match.

Meanwhile, Detroit has re-signed WR Tim Patrick and added TE Kenny Yeboah, depth moves that could pay off down the road. If Holmes manages to pull off a surprise signing or finds a star pass rusher in the draft, the team’s offseason grade could go up. But for now, fans are left wondering if Detroit has done enough to take that next step toward a championship.
