The Detroit Lions have bolstered their secondary by agreeing to terms with veteran cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, according to ESPN’s Mike Garafolo. A former second-round pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2019, Ya-Sin most recently played for the San Francisco 49ers during the 2024 season. While he may not have been one of the top free-agent cornerbacks available, the Lions are betting on his experience and untapped potential to strengthen their defensive backfield.
Ya-Sin has appeared in 79 career games, making 39 starts. Over that span, he has recorded 199 tackles, 31 passes defended, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. At 28 years old, he still has time to carve out a larger role, and Detroit could be an ideal landing spot for him. The Lions’ cornerback room is now led by D.J. Reed and first-round pick Terrion Arnold, with Ya-Sin adding valuable depth and competition.
While it remains to be seen how big of a role Ya-Sin will play in Detroit, his signing gives the Lions another experienced option in a group that needed reinforcements. If he can tap into the potential that made him a high draft pick, he could prove to be a solid addition to Detroit’s defense.
