Detroit Lions Could Address Key Need with All-Mountain West Edge on Day 3

The Detroit Lions have a clear need at edge rusher, and if they don’t address it early in the 2025 NFL Draft, fans might not be happy. With free agency passing without a major addition at the position, the pressure is on for the Lions to find pass-rushing help.

Pro Football Focus analyst Jordan Plocher has identified Boise State edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein as a potential Day 3 draft target. Hassanein had a strong college career, earning All-Mountain West First Team honors in back-to-back seasons. In 2023, he recorded 53 tackles, 12.5 sacks, and 31 quarterback hurries. While his sack total dipped to 9.5 in 2024, he remained productive with 47 tackles, 35 hurries, and 16 tackles for loss.

Despite his college success, Hassanein might not be an immediate impact player at the NFL level. His development could take time, making him more of a long-term investment rather than a quick fix for Detroit’s pass rush. If the Lions select him, they may still need to sign a veteran edge rusher to help bridge the gap for the upcoming season.

With the draft approaching, all eyes will be on Detroit’s front office to see how they address this crucial position.
