Detroit Lions Face Losing Key Underrated Free Agent—Here’s Why They Can’t

Tim Patrick: The Underrated Free Agent the Lions Can’t Afford to Lose

As the Detroit Lions face tough decisions this offseason with 31 players set to hit free agency, wide receiver Tim Patrick stands out as a key player the team should prioritize re-signing. Despite being with the Lions for just one season, Patrick quickly became a reliable target for quarterback Jared Goff, recording 34 receptions for 416 yards and three touchdowns.

Patrick’s size—6’5″ and 210 lbs—combined with his solid hands and deep-ball threat, makes him an invaluable asset to the Lions’ offense. His rapport with Goff grew throughout the season, highlighted by his two-touchdown game against the Green Bay Packers.

The Lions’ offense, led by former Denver coordinator John Morton, benefits from Patrick’s prior experience in Denver, where he had two strong seasons with 50+ receptions. Patrick’s modest one-year cap hit of $1.3 million makes him a cost-effective option compared to drafting a rookie receiver, who would require time to develop.

Given Patrick’s proven ability, his familiarity with the system, and his potential for continued growth, the Lions should ensure he remains part of their future plans.
