Detroit Lions Still Eyeing Myles Garrett Trade, But It’s a Long Shot
The Detroit Lions aren’t giving up on their dream of landing Myles Garrett. According to Lions Wire’s Jeff Risdon, the team has once again checked in with the Cleveland Browns about the availability of their superstar pass rusher.
Lions’ Persistent Pursuit of Garrett
The Lions were reportedly one of the most aggressive teams trying to trade for Garrett during the 2024 season. While no deal materialized, Detroit hasn’t backed down. Now that Garrett has officially requested a trade, their interest remains strong.
“Now that Garrett has requested a trade, I talked to sources from both teams who verified that the Lions have contacted the Browns again about Garrett’s availability,” Risdon wrote.
However, while Detroit is still in the mix, the reality of a deal happening seems slim.
Why a Trade Seems Unlikely
Despite Garrett’s trade request, Cleveland remains adamant that they’re not moving their 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Browns GM Andrew Berry and other team sources have consistently shut down any speculation, with Risdon noting that “every Browns voice in Indy” has insisted Garrett “isn’t going anywhere.”
Even if Cleveland does entertain offers, it likely wouldn’t happen before the 2025 NFL Draft, meaning any trade speculation involving draft picks is currently meaningless.
Lions Still Looking to Bolster Pass Rush
Whether or not Garrett becomes a realistic option, the Lions remain focused on strengthening their defensive front this offseason. Detroit’s pass rush showed promise last season, but adding a game-changer like Garrett would take the unit to another level.
For now, the dream remains alive—but it’s a long shot.
