The Detroit Lions are going into their playoff game without one of their key offensive linemen. Starting right guard Kevin Zeitler will sit out Saturday’s divisional round game against the Washington Commanders due to a hamstring injury he picked up in the Week 18 win over the Minnesota Vikings. Zeitler didn’t practice this week and is focusing on rest and treatment.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed that rookie Christian Mahogany will likely start in his place. Mahogany previously started in Week 16 when he filled in for Graham Glasgow, and he impressed many with his performance. He played 65 snaps, allowed no sacks, and only gave up one pressure, showing solid skills in run blocking. Campbell mentioned they also have veteran Kayode Awosika available as a backup, adding depth to the line.
On the defensive side, veteran Pat O’Connor will also miss the game with a calf injury. Rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw is listed as questionable due to a hamstring issue, but he’s still in his 21-day return window from injured reserve.
Other notable players like cornerback Terrion Arnold, running back David Montgomery, and left tackle Taylor Decker are all good to go. Decker missed Wednesday’s practice for a personal matter but is available after welcoming a new child into the family.
For the Commanders, linebacker Jordan Magee will miss the game due to a hamstring issue, while linebacker Mykal Walker and tight end Colson Yankoff are listed as questionable. Linebacker Bobby Wagner will be playing after practicing all week without any issues.
