“It’s Heading That Way”: Lions Set to Lock in $15M Decision on Jameson Williams
Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes has all but confirmed that the team will pick up Jameson Williams’ fifth-year option, locking in a $15.493 million deal for 2026. Speaking at the NFL Owner’s Meetings, Holmes made it clear that the decision is nearly final.
“Look, it’s heading that way that we are most likely going to be doing that,” Holmes said. “He was a tremendous player for us last year. He’s still scratching the surface.”
After a breakout 2024 season with over 1,000 receiving yards and a league-leading 17.3 yards per catch (among WRs with 75+ targets), the move makes sense. However, Williams’ past includes a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy and an off-field incident involving an unregistered gun (though no charges were filed).
Despite those setbacks, Williams’ talent is undeniable, and the Lions aren’t in a rush to decide on a long-term deal just yet. Holmes acknowledged that wide receiver contracts are expensive, but the team is open to an extension down the line.
For now, all signs point to Williams staying in Detroit for at least another year as he continues to prove he’s a core part of the Lions’ future.
