The Detroit Lions are keeping one of their own around for another season. Running back Craig Reynolds is set to return on a one-year deal, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Reynolds, nicknamed “Netflix” after Duce Staley joked he was probably just watching TV when the Lions called him in 2021, has been a steady presence in Detroit’s backfield. He’s mostly played as the third running back behind Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, while also making a big impact on special teams. In 48 games, he’s racked up 650 rushing yards on 150 carries (4.3 YPC) and one touchdown.
This year, Reynolds could face stiffer competition for a roster spot. The Lions drafted Sione Vaki last year with plans to convert him from safety to running back, and he could push for the RB3 role. But if there’s one thing Reynolds has proven over the years, it’s that he knows how to carve out a role when given the chance.
