Shaun Dion Hamilton Promoted to Detroit Lions Linebacker Coach
The Detroit Lions have promoted Shaun Dion Hamilton to linebacker coach, the team announced Saturday evening. Hamilton previously served as the Lions’ assistant linebackers coach.
From Alabama to the NFL Coaching Ranks
Hamilton’s football journey began at the University of Alabama, where he played from 2014 to 2017. During his tenure, he contributed to two national championship victories in 2015 and 2017. Over four seasons, Hamilton recorded 104 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions, solidifying his reputation as a key player for the Crimson Tide.
After completing his college career, Hamilton was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He spent three seasons with Washington before finishing his NFL playing career with the Lions.
Transition to Coaching
Hamilton joined the Lions’ coaching staff in 2022 as a defensive assistant. Since then, he has steadily climbed the ranks, earning respect within the organization. His promotion comes on the heels of the Lions’ best season in franchise history, a testament to the team’s upward trajectory.
