The Detroit Lions have made significant moves to strengthen their cornerback depth heading into 2025, but could they look to trade one of their veterans? Pro Football Focus’ Bradley Locker believes Amik Robertson could be a trade candidate, given Detroit’s offseason additions and the emergence of younger talent like Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Robertson, who posted an impressive 89.7 PFF run-defense grade last season, proved to be a key piece of Detroit’s secondary. His toughness and reliability were on full display, especially in the playoffs when his early exit against Washington exposed how thin the Lions’ depth had become. With Detroit set to face rising quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Jordan Love in the NFC North, maintaining strong cornerback depth is crucial.
While the Lions’ defensive line has seen shakeups, their strategy clearly leans on a dominant secondary to complement Aidan Hutchinson and the pass rush. Trading Robertson wouldn’t net a huge return and would only weaken a position that was already a concern in 2024. If Detroit truly wants to contend, keeping experienced, battle-tested players like Robertson is the smart move.
