Lions Rumored to Target Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs in Potential Blockbuster Trade
The Detroit Lions may be looking to make a major splash in their secondary this offseason, and one name that’s surfacing as a potential target is Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs.
With Carlton Davis set to hit free agency after an injury-shortened season in Detroit, the Lions could be in the market for a high-impact cornerback. While young talent like Amik Robertson, Terrion Arnold, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. gives them some depth, they still lack a proven lockdown defender. That’s where Diggs comes in.
According to Pro Football Network’s Sterling Xie, Detroit could explore a trade for Diggs, who has been one of the league’s most dynamic playmakers at cornerback. Despite battling injuries over the past two seasons, Diggs has already proven himself as a game-changing talent. He burst onto the scene in his second year, leading the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021 and earning First-Team All-Pro honors.
Diggs’ 2024 season was cut short due to injury, but when healthy, he still showed flashes of his elite ability. He held opposing quarterbacks to a 60% completion percentage and allowed just 7.2 yards per attempt—better than Davis’ 7.5 yards per attempt for Detroit. If the Lions were to land him, they’d be adding a 27-year-old cornerback under contract for four more seasons, giving them a long-term solution in the secondary.
Of course, acquiring Diggs wouldn’t come cheap. The Cowboys handed him a $97 million extension, and Detroit would need to work out the financials of taking on that deal. However, if Dallas is willing to move on from him—potentially to create cap space—the Lions could find themselves in a position to capitalize.
With Detroit coming off an NFC Championship appearance and looking to build a Super Bowl-caliber roster, making a bold move for Diggs could be the kind of aggressive decision that pushes them over the top.
