The Detroit Lions are giving defensive lineman Levi Onwuzurike another shot to prove himself. The former second-round pick has agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal to stay in Detroit, per Ian Rapoport.
Onwuzurike’s career got off to a rough start with injuries, including a back issue that wiped out his entire second season. But after slowly working his way back, he finally put together a solid 2024 campaign, starting 10 games and showing the versatility to play both defensive tackle and defensive end. He finished the season with 28 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 13 QB hits, and a forced fumble—enough to earn another chance in Detroit.
With this deal, Onwuzurike will have a full season to prove he can stay healthy and contribute consistently, potentially setting himself up for a bigger payday down the line. The Lions’ defensive line is shaping up nicely, with a rotation that now includes Alim McNeill, DJ Reader, Roy Lopez (once official), and a mix of young talent.
