Detroit Retains DE Marcus Davenport for Another Season

The Detroit Lions are giving Marcus Davenport another shot, re-signing the oft-injured defensive end to a one-year deal worth up to $4.75 million. The former first-round pick played just two games for Detroit last season before a triceps injury sidelined him.

Injuries have been the story of Davenport’s career. Since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2018, he has never played a full season and has suited up for more than 11 games just twice. His best year came in 2021 with the Saints, when he recorded nine sacks and three forced fumbles. However, his production has been inconsistent, and he has played in just six games over the past two seasons.

Despite the risks, the Lions are betting on his upside, hoping he can provide much-needed pass-rush depth alongside Aidan Hutchinson.
