Lions Bringing Back Linebacker Anthony Pittman
The Detroit Lions are keeping another familiar face around, as they’ve reportedly agreed to re-sign linebacker Anthony Pittman to a one-year deal. The move comes just hours after the team locked in Derrick Barnes on a three-year extension. While the deal isn’t officially done yet, reports say it’s only a matter of time.
Pittman, a Detroit native, started his career with the Lions in 2019 before taking a brief detour last year. He signed with Washington in free agency, but after getting waived, he landed on Jacksonville’s practice squad. The Lions scooped him back up in December, bringing him home.
He’s been a key special teams contributor, logging over 350 snaps in each of the past three seasons. Special teams coordinator Dave Fipp praised Pittman’s work ethic and growth, calling him a “total pro” and a “valuable player.”
With Pittman back, the Lions now have seven linebackers under contract for 2025, continuing to build depth as they gear up for another playoff push.
