Detroit Seals Deal With Georgia Grit: Ratledge Ready for NFL War

The Detroit Lions have officially signed their second-round draft pick Tate Ratledge, bringing the rookie offensive lineman fully into the fold just ahead of training camp.

Ratledge, who was selected 57th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, agreed to a standard four-year rookie deal. The move ensures the former Georgia standout will be on the field and in uniform as the Lions head into a critical training camp with big expectations.

Detroit traded up to land Ratledge during the draft, viewing him as a long-term answer along the interior offensive line. Standing 6-foot-6 and weighing in over 310 pounds, he’s known for his physicality, high motor, and ability to dominate in the run game. In college, he allowed just one sack in his last two seasons, earning All-American honors in the process.

The timing of the deal is crucial. With veteran Frank Ragnow retired and a reshuffling offensive front, Ratledge will have every opportunity to compete for a starting job—potentially at guard or center. Reports suggest the Lions have already begun cross-training him at both positions, a sign of just how valuable and versatile they believe he can be.

Fans had been growing nervous over a possible holdout, especially with several other 2nd-rounders around the league still unsigned. But with this contract locked in, Ratledge avoids drama and heads into camp ready to battle from Day 1.

Bottom line? Detroit’s offensive line just got deeper, stronger, and younger—with a bulldog from Georgia hungry to prove himself.
