Detroit Secures Secondary: Dorsey Re-Signs with Lions

The Detroit Lions are keeping one of their key special teams playmakers around for another season. Cornerback Khalil Dorsey, who had a strong 2024 campaign before suffering a brutal leg injury, has re-signed with the team.

Dorsey, 26, went down with a nasty fibula and tibia break during a game against the Buffalo Bills. It happened when he collided with teammate Ezekiel Turner on a third-and-goal play. The injury was so bad that Dorsey had to be calmed down in the ambulance, already worrying about whether he had just played his last game for Detroit.

Luckily, the timeline for his recovery is around four to six months, giving him a solid chance to bounce back for the 2025 season.

Detroit’s coaches have always valued Dorsey’s impact, especially as a gunner on special teams. Head coach Dan Campbell even called him “one of the best gunners in the league.” That’s high praise from a guy who loves physical, hard-nosed football.

Since joining the Lions, Dorsey has played in 27 games, racking up 25 tackles and three pass breakups. Now, he’s set to be part of a secondary that includes Terrion Arnold, D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, and Stantley Thomas-Oliver.

With Dorsey back in the fold, the Lions now have 72 players under contract as they continue shaping their roster for next season.
