Detroit Still Weighing Jameson Williams’ Future as Offseason Continues

The Detroit Lions have a big decision looming regarding Jameson Williams, but they aren’t in a rush to make it. After a breakout 2024 season where he topped 1,000 yards and finished second in the league in yards per catch (17.3), Williams has proven he can be a dangerous weapon. However, his track record is still mixed due to past suspensions and off-field issues.

The Lions can exercise Williams’ fifth-year option for $15.49 million by May 1, which would keep him under team control through 2026. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Detroit is taking a cautious approach. There’s no urgency to sign him to a long-term extension yet, as they want to see if he can maintain his production and stay out of trouble. With time on their side, the Lions can let Williams prove himself further before committing big money to him.
