With the 2025 NFL Draft set to take over Lambeau Field later this month, Detroit Lions president Rod Wood couldn’t help but take a jab at the Green Bay Packers—both on and off the field.
Speaking at a pre-draft luncheon in Detroit, Wood threw some light-hearted shade at their divisional rivals, questioning whether the Packers could match the electric atmosphere and record-setting success of last year’s draft in Detroit.
“Trying to get the NFL to consider bringing it back [to Detroit] because I don’t think they’ll ever top it,” Wood said.
It’s not just talk—Detroit set the bar high in 2024 with a massive turnout of 775,000 fans and the third-highest draft TV ratings in the last decade.
Then Wood turned up the heat even more, taking a swipe at Green Bay’s place in the standings. “There’s no way Green Bay will come close,” he said. “They’ll finish second, or as I said to Brad [Galli], they’ll finish third like they did last year.”
For the record, the Packers did finish third in the NFC North in 2024 with an 11-6 record before bowing out to the eventual Super Bowl champion Eagles. The Lions? They stormed to a 15-2 season, won the division again, and made it to the Divisional Round before falling to Washington.
Unsurprisingly, Wood’s comments have stirred up some social media beef between fans. Packers supporters are quick to point to their four Super Bowl titles, while Lions fans are proudly flexing recent dominance and back-to-back division crowns.
The rivalry is alive and well—and with the draft kicking off on April 24, it’s clear the competition between these two franchises is just heating up.
