Lions Add Speed and Grit With Seventh-Round Pick Dominic Lovett

The Detroit Lions wrapped up their 2025 NFL Draft by selecting Georgia wide receiver Dominic Lovett with the 244th overall pick in the seventh round.

Standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 185 pounds, Lovett consistently produced throughout college, recording over 600 receiving yards in each of his last three seasons and totaling 13 career touchdowns. His breakout year came as a sophomore at Missouri, when he posted 56 catches for 846 yards and three scores.

Here’s what to know about Detroit’s newest wideout:

Fits as a Slot Receiver and Special Teams Contributor
Lovett profiles as a classic slot receiver, excelling in yards after the catch but occasionally struggling with deep ball consistency and drops. Known for his speed—running a 4.40-second 40-yard dash—he also flashed special teams ability as a standout punt gunner at Georgia, helping limit opponents to just 23 punt return yards over two seasons.

Ready to Learn from the Best
Joining a deep Lions receiver group, Lovett is eager to study under Pro Bowl slot man Amon-Ra St. Brown and speedy outside threat Jameson Williams. He said he hopes to soak up as much knowledge as possible from Detroit’s veterans to refine his craft at the NFL level.

Familiar Faces Await in Detroit
Lovett won’t be alone in making the transition. Detroit also drafted two of his Georgia teammates: offensive lineman Tate Ratledge and safety Dan Jackson. Plus, Lovett previously played with current Lions cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at Missouri, helping him feel right at home in a locker room already trending upward.

Production Dipped in Big Games
Although Lovett was consistent during his time at Georgia, he rarely posted monster performances against elite opponents. He managed modest numbers in recent SEC Championship games and the College Football Playoff, raising questions about his ceiling against top-tier competition.

Former Four-Star Prospect
A highly touted recruit out of East St. Louis High School in Illinois, Lovett was ranked the No. 331 overall player in the 2021 class and fielded offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, Oregon, LSU, and Penn State before ultimately carving out his collegiate career.
