The Detroit Lions are making moves to ensure their defense doesn’t collapse like it did in the playoffs last season. After getting torched by Commanders rookie QB Jayden Daniels, the team went all in on upgrading the secondary—enter D.J. Reed. The former Jets cornerback is heading to Detroit on a three-year, $48 million deal, and the move is already being called the best signing of free agency so far.
ESPN’s Seth Walder praised the Lions for not only bringing in one of the top corners available but doing it at a great price. Compared to Carlton Davis III, who’s getting $20 million a year from the Patriots, Detroit locked in Reed for just $16 million per season—an absolute steal for a guy who has consistently locked down receivers for the past four years. At 28 years old, Reed still has plenty left in the tank, and he should be a massive boost to a Lions defense that needed this upgrade.
