The Detroit Lions entered this offseason knowing one thing for sure — adding another pass-rusher would be crucial to take their defense to the next level. But as training camp inches closer, the available options are slipping away, leaving Detroit in a difficult spot.
Many of the top free-agent edge rushers have already been scooped up, and trade possibilities are drying up just as quickly. For a team with playoff and Super Bowl ambitions, failing to add depth behind Aidan Hutchinson could leave the defense vulnerable, especially if injuries strike during the season.
The Lions have been linked to several veteran names, but the shrinking market means their margin for error is gone. Whoever they bring in now won’t just be a body — it’ll need to be someone who can produce immediately and complement Hutchinson’s relentless energy on the edge.
While Detroit has plenty of confidence in its young core, the lack of proven depth in the pass rush remains one of the few holes on an otherwise loaded roster. If general manager Brad Holmes can’t land the right player soon, the Lions may have to rely heavily on internal development and creative scheming from Aaron Glenn’s defense.
One thing’s clear: the longer the Lions wait, the fewer answers they’ll find.
