Don’t sleep on Ahmed Hassanein.
The Detroit Lions’ sixth-round rookie defensive end might’ve been a late pick, but he’s already out here lifting like a veteran and letting everyone know he’s got something to prove. In a recent workout clip he posted, Hassanein is seen bench-pressing a ridiculous 405 pounds — with Cody Johnson’s “Doubt Me Now” blasting in the background. Message received loud and clear.
And this wasn’t just a flex for the ‘Gram. The lyrics he chose were a direct shot at anyone doubting his place in the league:
“Keep building that chip up on my shoulder… Got me living for the day, gonna see my face big as life and laughing out loud. Loving all you haters. Begging you to doubt me now.”
This dude’s got a chip on his shoulder the size of Ford Field, and he’s using it to fuel every rep.
Hassanein impressed during rookie minicamp and OTAs, and now he’s grinding for a bigger role in a defensive line room led by Aidan Hutchinson and (hopefully healthy) Marcus Davenport. Brad Holmes recently said he’s confident in the depth at edge — and Hassanein’s mindset might be one of the reasons why.
“I just can’t wait to unlock that next level with my mental game,” Hassanein told Lions OnSI. “If I’m consistent and I understand what I’m doing, I’ll play fast and make plays.”
And if that happens, this sixth-rounder could be one of the Lions’ biggest surprises in 2025.
