Detroit, MI — With training camps approaching and fantasy football chatter heating up, a leading fantasy football analyst has cast serious doubt on the Detroit Lions’ offensive outlook for the 2025 season, offering a no-nonsense critique that’s caught the attention of fans and insiders alike.
Speaking on a national fantasy football podcast, analyst Ryan Wilcox didn’t mince words when discussing the Lions’ offensive core. “There’s too much inconsistency in the passing game and too many question marks at wide receiver,” Wilcox said. “I don’t trust Jared Goff as a weekly starter in most fantasy formats, and outside of Jahmyr Gibbs, there’s not a ton of fantasy reliability in Detroit.”
The blunt assessment comes despite the Lions’ playoff appearance last season and continued optimism from head coach Dan Campbell, who’s emphasized offensive balance and growth in his public comments. Detroit ranked top 10 in points per game last season but struggled with red zone efficiency and turnovers in key moments.
While Wilcox praised Gibbs as a “must-start” and a potential top-five fantasy running back, he had reservations about other skill players. “Amon-Ra St. Brown is a high-floor guy, but his ceiling takes a hit with Goff’s limitations and inconsistent deep threats around him,” Wilcox said. “Sam LaPorta is intriguing, but the offense just isn’t built to support multiple high-end fantasy producers.”
The Lions’ offensive line remains a strength, and many within the organization believe the unit has yet to hit its full potential. Still, Wilcox’s comments serve as a reminder that NFL success and fantasy success don’t always go hand in hand.
Fans and fantasy managers alike will now keep a close eye on Detroit’s training camp battles, especially at wide receiver and quarterback, to see whether the offense can defy the doubters—or live up to the concerns aired by fantasy experts.
