Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold is carrying more than just expectations into the 2025 NFL season — he’s carrying the memory of a fallen friend. Arnold announced that he’ll wear jersey No. 6 this season in honor of his former Alabama teammate, Khyree Jackson, who tragically passed away in a car crash last summer.
Jackson, drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, lost his life in a devastating three-car accident in Maryland last July, along with two of his former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr. He had only just begun his NFL journey and was competing for a starting job in Minnesota before his life was cut short.
Arnold, who previously wore No. 0, explained the switch on the “New Wave Podcast,” saying the number 6 holds deep meaning — not only was it the number Jackson wore at Alabama, but it also represents a way for Arnold to let his friend’s legacy live on through him. “The guy was the ultimate competitor,” Arnold said. “It’s that extra motivation when I look down and say, ‘Dang man, I got on that 6 — my brother’s living through me.’”
The two shared time together at Alabama before Jackson transferred to Oregon. Jackson’s impact was felt by everyone who knew him, including Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell, who praised his energy, resilience, and positive spirit. After his passing, the Vikings covered his funeral expenses and paid out his full signing bonus to his family.
Arnold’s jersey change is a powerful gesture, a reminder of brotherhood, and a promise to keep Jackson’s memory alive every time he steps on the field.
