The Detroit Lions are looking to add a veteran tight end to their roster. One option is Zach Ertz, a former Pro Bowl tight end who was waived by the Arizona Cardinals in late November and remains unsigned. Ertz has a history with the Lions’ tight ends coach, Steve Heiden, which could make for a smooth transition.
Another option is re-signing Brock Wright, who has been with the Lions since 2021 and has shown promise as a blocker and receiver. Wright is expected to compete for the third tight end role in camp.
The Lions have also re-signed veteran tight end James Mitchell, who missed the 2023 season due to injury. Mitchell has shown potential as a receiver and blocker, and could provide depth at the tight end position.
Other tight ends on the Lions’ roster include Sam LaPorta, who has been impressive in his first season with the team, and Shane Zylstra, who returns after missing the entire 2023 season due to a knee injury.
