Matt Foster Joins Diamondbacks Organization After Stint in Mexico
Former Alabama pitcher Matt Foster just made a move back stateside—he’s officially signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks after a strong run in Mexico. The news dropped on Saturday when the Triple-A Reno Aces announced the signing. His former team, the Algodoneros Union Laguna, had first broken the news earlier this week on June 11.
Foster’s journey has been a bit of a ride. After being let go by the Chicago White Sox last year and going through Tommy John surgery in 2023, he bounced back this season with a crazy-low 0.66 ERA in the Mexican League. Now he’s signed to a minor league deal, but with a string of injuries plaguing the D-backs’ bullpen, there’s a real shot he could get called up sooner rather than later.
For the record, Foster’s got 119.1 MLB innings under his belt with a career 4.30 ERA not bad at all for a guy working his way back into the big leagues.
