Buccaneers Fans Furious After Controversial Lions Interception
Buccaneers and football fans couldn’t believe their eyes when the Detroit Lions were awarded an interception late in the first half of Monday’s matchup at Ford Field.
Tampa Bay entered the game chasing a third straight victory and their sixth overall win of the 2025 NFL season. But the Lions made things difficult early, jumping out to an 11-point lead by halftime.
Late in the second quarter, with the Buccaneers looking to close the gap, quarterback Baker Mayfield threw a pass toward tight end Cade Otton. For a brief moment, it appeared Otton had secured the catch — until Lions defensive back Arthur Maulet came crashing in. Moments later, officials ruled the play an interception for Detroit.
The call instantly sparked outrage among Buccaneers fans and football viewers across social media.
“Brother, everyone and the announcers were saying tie goes to the offense and it looks like Otton had it and then refs come in and help out the Lions lol,” one fan posted.
Another chimed in sarcastically,
A third fan added, “We’ve been told constantly over the years that simultaneous possession goes to the offense. Y’all aren’t beating the ‘rigged’ allegations.”
Others questioned how the ruling could be changed after play had already resumed. “How can you overturn this after stopping the Bucs who had already snapped the ball on the next play???” one wondered.
One especially angry fan went off: “The fact the league celebrates not even knowing its own rules is a fn joke and makes em lose credibility. Hire full-time staff and train them properly you ridiculous a**s.”
Despite the frustration, Tampa Bay still had time to regroup and mount a comeback against Jared Goff and the Lions.
