DJ Reed hasn’t played a single down in Honolulu Blue, but he’s already dreaming big—and Lions fans are loving it.
The veteran cornerback, who signed a 3-year, $48 million deal with Detroit this offseason, is already making himself at home. Over the weekend, Reed fired off a message on social media that instantly fired up the fanbase: if the Lions win the Super Bowl, he’s getting a “313” tattoo to honor Detroit.
It didn’t take long for Lions fans to jump on the hype train, turning Reed’s “if” into a confident “when.”
Reed joins the Lions to replace Carlton Davis, who departed for the Patriots. While fans were sad to see Davis go, they’ve quickly embraced Reed, who brings toughness, experience, and swagger to the secondary. Last season with the Jets, Reed tallied 64 tackles, 11 pass breakups, four tackles for loss, and gave up just two touchdowns in coverage.
He might not have ideal size at 5’9”, but he plays bigger than his frame—and his stats back it up.
After falling short in the playoffs last year, Detroit returns most of its core and is once again positioned as a real threat in the NFC. The team has new coordinators, a few fresh faces on the staff, and now a cornerback who’s already thinking about bringing home the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy.
If DJ Reed’s play matches his passion, Lions fans just might see that “313” tattoo happen for real.
