Dodgers Add Sauer, Send Wrobleski Down as Kershaw Hits 60-Day IL

The Dodgers are making some roster moves as they kick off the season. They’ve called up right-hander Matt Sauer and sent lefty Justin Wrobleski down to the minors.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, Clayton Kershaw was officially placed on the 60-day injured list—no surprises there.

Sauer, 26, was a non-roster invitee to spring training and impressed with eight strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings in four appearances. He made his MLB debut last year with the Royals, where he posted a 7.71 ERA in 14 games.

Wrobleski, on the other hand, had a solid spring, going 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four outings.

As for Kershaw, the 36-year-old is heading into his 18th season with the Dodgers but will have to wait to add to his impressive career stats. He’s just 36 strikeouts away from hitting 3,000. Last season, he only made seven starts before a toe injury sidelined him. Now, he’s recovering from multiple offseason surgeries, hoping to make a comeback later in the year.
