Draft Watch: Giants Getting Cozy with Jaxson Dart

The New York Giants are clearly doing their homework on Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are one of four teams that Dart has spent the “most time” with during the pre-draft process. The other three? The Browns, Saints, and Steelers.

The Browns have picks 2 and 33. The Saints are sitting at No. 9. The Steelers have pick No. 21. And the Giants? They’ve got two premium picks at No. 3 and 34.

Dart wrapped up his final pre-draft visit with the Steelers on Friday, which likely means he already made a stop in East Rutherford to chat with Big Blue. That raises a big question: If the Giants really like Dart, do they pull the trigger at No. 3? Or try to trade down and hope he’s still on the board later?

That’s risky business. In SB Nation’s recent writer mock draft, Big Blue View’s Ed Valentine took Travis Hunter at No. 3 and hoped to trade back into the first round for Dart — but finding the right deal without giving up next year’s first-rounder wasn’t easy. And there’s no guarantee Dart lasts that long.

Let’s not forget: Last year, J.J. McCarthy said he spent more time with the Giants than any other team — and they passed on him.

Could Dart go top 10? Possibly. ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky thinks he will.

“I’m a Jaxson Dart guy,” Orlovsky said on the Pat McAfee Show. “I don’t think he makes it out of the top 10. He sees the field well and can throw it. I think he’s gonna be an awesome pro.”
