Draft Watch: Lions Could Go Nickel Corner Early—And Benjamin Morrison’s a Name to Know

With the 2025 NFL Draft fast approaching, don’t rule out the Detroit Lions using one of their early picks to beef up the secondary—specifically at nickel corner.

NFL draft analyst Matt Miller is hearing that Detroit might target a defensive back within the first four selections. Even with the solid presence of Ennis Rakestraw and Amik Robertson, the Lions could be eyeing more depth, especially with matchups increasingly dictated by slot receivers and versatile offensive looks.

There’s also some buzz about Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison. He’s rehabbing from hip surgery and plans to work out before the draft to solidify his stock. Morrison is talented, and if his medicals check out, he could be an option at pick No. 60. Mel Kiper pointed out that this draft class is loaded with injury-questioned players, and how teams view Morrison’s recovery could make all the difference.

Meanwhile, offensive line and pass rush remain priorities. With Frank Ragnow’s future uncertain, someone like Grey Zabel from NDSU—who can play both guard and center—is a name to watch at No. 28.

But don’t sleep on cornerback. Holmes and company could very well surprise us early.
