Will the Eagles Make a Move for Myles Garrett?
With just over a week left until the NFL league year begins, the biggest trade question in the league remains: Will the Cleveland Browns give in to Myles Garrett’s trade request?
Garrett, a three-time All-Pro and the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, has made it clear—he wants out of Cleveland. The Browns have publicly maintained that they don’t plan to trade him, but that hasn’t stopped teams from calling to check on his availability. One of those teams? The Philadelphia Eagles.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Philadelphia’s interest in Garrett is “real.” That shouldn’t be a surprise, given general manager Howie Roseman’s track record of making bold, aggressive moves to upgrade the roster. However, landing Garrett wouldn’t be cheap.
What Would a Trade Look Like?
To pry Garrett away from Cleveland, the Eagles would have to give up significant draft capital. The challenge is that their 2025 first-round pick sits near the bottom of the round after winning Super Bowl LIX, and next year’s pick is likely to be just as late. That could force them to include multiple high picks or even a key player to make a deal work.
The financial side also complicates things. Garrett carries a $25 million cap hit in 2025, which would make it difficult for Philadelphia to keep all of their championship core intact. The Eagles have already made tough roster decisions, and adding Garrett could mean moving on from other key contributors to balance the books.
Why the Eagles Could Make the Move Anyway
Despite the challenges, adding a dominant pass rusher like Garrett would be a game-changer for Philadelphia’s defense. Garrett has posted 14 or more sacks in four straight seasons, and his disruptive presence could take the Eagles’ defensive front to another level.
There’s also the motivation factor. One of the toughest challenges for a Super Bowl-winning team is avoiding complacency the following year. A hungry star like Garrett, who has never been to a Super Bowl, could inject the kind of urgency and drive needed to push for back-to-back championships.
A Smokescreen to Boost His Trade Value?
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Philadelphia’s interest is part of a bigger game. As Chris Simms pointed out on PFT Live, the Eagles might simply be helping the Browns drive up the price by showing interest.
With other contenders lurking, including teams like the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans, the Eagles’ involvement could force a rival to overpay just to keep Garrett out of Philadelphia.
What Happens Next?
If a trade is going to happen, it will likely be before the NFL Draft. That means teams have less than two months to make a move.
For now, the Eagles remain a team to watch. If Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie decide to go all-in again, Myles Garrett could be the next superstar addition in Philadelphia.
But whether they’re making a serious push or just playing the game to stir up the market, one thing is clear—Garrett’s future is far from settled.
