Early Lions 2026 Mock Draft Shows Clear Priorities: Defense, Defense, Defense

It might feel early to start thinking about the 2026 NFL Draft, but for Detroit Lions fans dreaming of a Super Bowl run, it’s never too soon. If everything goes as hoped, the Lions will be picking near the end of the first round after a deep playoff push—maybe even after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

Assuming Detroit finishes strong and avoids major injuries or setbacks, they’ll likely hold a late first-round pick. That doesn’t mean they can’t make impactful selections, though, especially with the team’s current needs at pass rush, center, and cornerback.

Using NFL Mock Draft Database to simulate a five-round draft with the Lions’ four projected picks, here’s an early look at how Detroit could attack their roster needs:

1st Round (29th overall): LB Deonte Lawson, Alabama
Lawson is a tackling machine, racking up 194 stops, 16 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 12 pass breakups during his time at Alabama. After bypassing the 2025 draft, he’s returning for a fifth year, making him a polished, experienced option. Adding Lawson to a linebacker group featuring Aidan Hutchinson, Alex Anzalone, Jack Campbell, and Derrick Barnes would create one of the league’s most intimidating units.

2nd Round (61st overall): EDGE Anto Saka, Northwestern
Saka flashed potential with 3.5 sacks last season, and another year as a starter at Northwestern could boost his stock. He’s an explosive, quick pass rusher who could thrive with the right coaching—exactly the type of project the Lions’ defensive staff excels at developing.

4th Round (129th overall): CB Daylen Everette, Georgia
Detroit keeps the defensive focus going by adding Everette, a talented cornerback with strong production: 45 solo tackles, three interceptions, three passes defended, and two forced fumbles last season. His athleticism is undeniable, but he’ll need to refine his technique to avoid getting burned by crafty NFL receivers. Still, his upside and ball skills make him an intriguing addition to the Lions’ secondary.

With these picks, Detroit continues to invest in a defense that already made huge strides last season. If the Lions truly are ready to stop falling short and take the final step, reloading on defense could be exactly what gets them there
