Eminem Joins Effort to Bring WNBA Back to Detroit
Detroit’s bid for a WNBA expansion team just got a major boost with Eminem joining the potential ownership group. According to Sportico, the Detroit-born rapper is teaming up with local sports owners, business leaders, and athletes—including Pistons owner Tom Gores, former NBA stars Grant Hill and Chris Webber, Lions QB Jared Goff, and GM CEO Mary Barra.
The WNBA is expected to select up to three expansion teams, with Detroit competing against cities like Charlotte, Cleveland, and Houston. The city previously had a WNBA team, the Detroit Shock, which won three championships before relocating in 2010. If successful, this bid would bring women’s pro basketball back to the Motor City.
