Eminem’s Music Publisher Sues Detroit Ford Dealership Over Unauthorized Use of “Lose Yourself”
Eminem’s music publisher, Eight Mile Style, has filed a lawsuit against LaFontaine Ford St. Clair, Inc., accusing the dealership of using *Lose Yourself* without permission in advertisements for special edition Detroit Lions F-150 pickup trucks. The lawsuit, filed on January 27, seeks at least $150,000 in damages and an injunction to stop further use of the song.
According to the complaint, the dealership ran ads on social media between September and October 2024, using the track with the caption, *“You only get one shot to own a Special Edition Detroit Lions F-150.”* Eminem’s legal team argues that this unauthorized use could diminish the song’s future licensing value. They have asked a U.S. District Judge to rule in their favor, forcing the dealership to cease and compensate for damages.
This isn’t the first copyright battle involving *Lose Yourself*—in 2017, the New Zealand National Party was ordered to pay $600,000 for a similar infringement.
