Ennis Rakestraw Injury Scare Ends with Relief for Lions
The Detroit Lions’ first day of 2025 training camp brought an unexpected scare involving second-year cornerback Ennis Rakestraw. After beginning the session with a long list of injured players, things took a turn when Rakestraw went down during an 11-on-11 drill.
The incident happened away from the main action, and while details are still emerging, it appeared Rakestraw collided with an offensive player. He stayed down, clutching his upper chest, and trainers quickly came to his aid. After spending some time on the sidelines, he was helped to the locker room and didn’t return for the rest of practice.
Initial reactions around the field were filled with concern, especially given how serious it looked in the moment. However, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport later shared a much-needed update: Rakestraw “is believed to have suffered just a chest contusion… A positive outcome.”
The Lions’ PR team confirmed soon after that Rakestraw was “being evaluated for a chest injury.” Thankfully, the early reports point to nothing serious.
Jeremy Reisman discussed the situation on the latest PODD training camp recap, highlighting that some injuries can appear worse than they actually are. He pointed out how Chauncey Gardner-Johnson once suffered what looked like a major knee injury in camp, only to return in full five days later.
As for Rakestraw, there’s no set timeline for his return just yet. Coach Dan Campbell is expected to offer more clarity during Monday’s press conference.
For now, fans can breathe a little easier. Rakestraw himself took to Instagram to reassure everyone, saying simply: he’s “good.”
