The New Orleans Saints have quickly become a team to watch as the NFL trade deadline approaches. Sitting at 1-6, the Saints appear to be shifting toward a rebuild, and that has put them firmly on the radar of several organizations looking to strengthen their rosters. With plenty of weak spots across the board, it makes sense for New Orleans to consider moving some of its established players in exchange for draft capital to help shape the team’s future.
While much of the recent speculation has centered on wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the Saints “would consider” trading cornerback Alontae Taylor if an enticing enough offer arrives. The Saints are not actively shopping Taylor, but according to Fowler, they remain open to discussions should a strong proposal come their way.
Taylor, a 2026 free agent, is expected to command a sizable contract once he hits the market. With emerging defensive backs Kool-Aid McKinstry, Quincy Riley, and Jonas Sanker already in place, the Saints might view a trade as an opportunity to invest in the future.
Since joining New Orleans, Taylor has been a consistent starter, though his performance in the last couple of seasons hasn’t matched the standout level of his rookie year. Still, his experience and athleticism make him a valuable asset for teams looking for secondary help.
According to Fowler, several franchises could be interested in Taylor, including the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Philadelphia Eagles. Each of those teams has issues at cornerback that could push them to explore a deal before the deadline.
In Buffalo, the Bills are still searching for a reliable option opposite Christian Benford, as Tre’Davious White continues to struggle in his return. The team expects rookie Maxwell Hairston back soon, but his readiness remains uncertain after missing extensive time.
The Lions, meanwhile, have been hit hard by injuries. Starters Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed are sidelined, and the depth behind them has been decimated, leaving Detroit desperate for healthy reinforcements.
The Eagles are in a similar spot. Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo have struggled, while Jakorian Bennett’s injury has added to the uncertainty. Jackson is also now dealing with his own physical setback, leaving Quinyon Mitchell as the only consistent performer.
If the Saints ultimately decide to make Taylor available, don’t be surprised if he ends up wearing the colors of the Eagles, Lions, or Bills before the trade window closes.
