Rodney Harrison Endorses Hendon Hooker Over Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward
Former All-Pro safety Rodney Harrison isn’t shy about his confidence in Detroit Lions backup quarterback Hendon Hooker. During a recent appearance on ProFootballTalk, Harrison made a bold statement, saying he would take Hooker over top QB prospects Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.
“I’ll tell you this, I’m taking Hendon Hooker before I’m taking Shedeur Sanders, before I’m taking Cam Ward. I’m taking that guy,” Harrison said. “He’s been rehabbing, he’s been behind Jared Goff the last couple years. He’s been with coach Ben Johnson, so you know he’s been coached the right way. I’m telling you, this Hendon Hooker, I’ve been on him for a while. I think he’s a hidden gem in the National Football League, and I think it’d be smart if the Jets went after him.”
Harrison believes Hooker’s time learning under Goff and Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has given him a strong foundation for success. While the Lions have committed to Goff as their starter, Hooker remains an intriguing prospect who could either become Detroit’s quarterback of the future or a valuable trade asset.
The mention of the New York Jets as a possible landing spot adds another layer of intrigue. With the Jets still searching for long-term stability at quarterback, Harrison’s comments could spark speculation about whether a team like New York would make a move for Hooker.
For now, Hooker remains in Detroit, continuing to develop behind Goff. But as teams look for the next breakout quarterback, don’t be surprised if his name starts gaining traction in trade talks.
