Faith and Football: Grant Stuard Shares Bible Verse That Fuels His Game

New Lions LB Grant Stuard Brings Relentless Work Ethic and Faith-Driven Mindset to Detroit
The Detroit Lions are adding another high-energy, hard-nosed player to their defense with the signing of linebacker Grant Stuard. His journey to the NFL has been anything but easy, but his relentless work ethic and faith have helped him overcome significant challenges.

Stuard, who endured a difficult childhood with family struggles, found stability and purpose through football. “I had a lot of things that were outside of my control happen to my family,” he said during his introductory press conference. “Football and aspects of the game are controllable… For me, I found comfort in the game.”

His tenacity carried him from the University of Houston to being selected as Mr. Irrelevant in the 2021 NFL Draft. After a brief stint with the Buccaneers, he made his mark in Indianapolis as a standout special teamer and depth linebacker, earning his first NFL start in 2024.

Now in Detroit, Stuard knows he’ll have to battle for playing time, but he welcomes the challenge. With the Lions’ linebacker corps already stacked, he chose Detroit precisely because of the competitive environment. “I want to be around guys who are attacking the day the way I attack the day,” he said.

Stuard’s relentless energy and faith-fueled mindset make him a perfect fit for Dan Campbell’s tough, gritty culture. If he can carve out a role, he could become an underrated asset in the Lions’ quest for a dominant 2025 season.
