The Dallas Cowboys are having an eventful offseason, but it wasn’t current players making headlines this week—it was a former quarterback, and not for anything football-related.
Rodney Peete, who played for the Cowboys back in the ‘90s, went viral during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ game against the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series. His offense? Catching a foul ball… with a glove… while sitting in the stands.
Peete and his wife, actress Holly Robinson Peete, were enjoying the game when a foul ball curved toward their seats in the sixth inning. Peete reached out and snagged it—unfortunately, that meant Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy never had a chance to make the play.
The moment blew up on social media, with many fans calling it a “cardinal sin” in baseball. Peete, however, defended his actions on AM 570 LA Sports, saying he was just trying to protect himself and his wife.
“I wasn’t really thinking about Max coming in for it,” Peete said. “We were sitting in the second row, and the ball started curving back. My only thought was, ‘Do I let it hit my wife or me in the head? Or do I try to catch it?’”
Regardless of his explanation, baseball purists weren’t happy. But hey, at least Peete’s hands are still in game shape!
