Federal Court Blocks Musk’s Access
A federal court has blocked Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing the U.S. Treasury Department’s central payment system. The decision comes after 19 Democratic attorneys general sued President Donald Trump, alleging that the Trump administration improperly allowed Musk’s team to access the system.
The Treasury Department’s payment system handles trillions of dollars in transactions every year, including tax refunds, Social Security benefits, and veterans’ benefits. The system contains sensitive personal and financial data, and the judge’s decision aims to protect this information from unauthorized access.
U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued the preliminary injunction, which requires Musk’s team to destroy any sensitive material they may have downloaded and to cease accessing the Treasury Department’s systems.
