Fines Fly After Lions-Commanders Clash: St. Brown, Kinlaw Hit Hard by NFL

The Detroit Lions’ Week 10 game against the Washington Commanders had everything—touchdowns, tempers, and now, a pile of fines to wrap up the drama. What started as a physical matchup turned into a Sunday afternoon filled with heated moments and costly decisions.

A Tense Exchange Turns Expensive

Things boiled over when Lions wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown found himself on the receiving end of a punch from Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne. Payne was tossed immediately for the hit, but the story didn’t end there.

After the game, Javon Kinlaw claimed that St. Brown actually kicked things off by striking Payne first. As it turns out, the video confirmed “St. Brown initiated the altercation,” and the league dropped a $12,172 fine on him as a result.

Kinlaw Gets Tagged Too

Kinlaw wasn’t immune either. His own miscues came during the Lions’ conversion attempt following the touchdown that preceded Payne’s ejection. He was flagged for making contact with an official—never a good move—and the league hit him with a $28,555 fine.

A league source explained that officials “did not want to eject players on back-to-back plays,” which likely saved Kinlaw from an early exit but not from losing a hefty chunk of his paycheck.

And Then There’s Ale Kaho…

Commanders linebacker Ale Kaho somehow ended up with the steepest bill of all. The league fined him $46,371 for illegal use of his helmet—a reminder that sometimes the priciest penalties aren’t the most obvious plays of the game.

A Costly Afternoon All Around

What could have been just another Sunday matchup turned into a financial headache for multiple players. While the Lions walked away with the win, several wallets walked away significantly lighter.
