Keir Starmer is heading to Washington on Thursday to meet Donald Trump in what’s being described as one of the most important meetings between a UK Prime Minister and a US President since World War II.
Flying at 30,000 feet on his way to the US, Starmer knew the meeting could have serious consequences for both the UK and Europe. Speaking to journalists on the government plane, he avoided giving away too much about the discussions but made it clear the UK would continue to support Ukraine, blaming Vladimir Putin for the ongoing war.
Dressed in a dark suit, Starmer answered a few questions but didn’t hang around long, heading back to the front of the plane where his team was preparing for the big meeting.
It’s not his first time at the White House – he met Joe Biden there last summer – but this meeting is seen as a much bigger deal.
