Season two of Netflix’s Quarterback dropped on July 8, and it didn’t take long for the emotions to kick in—especially from Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.
In the very first episode, Goff reflects on the 2021 trade that sent him from the Los Angeles Rams to Detroit. And let’s just say, he didn’t hold back. Goff got visibly emotional while talking about how much it meant to feel truly wanted again, especially after many in the league had written him off.
> “This is what it feels like to truly be wanted and to have these guys behind you,” Goff said, tearing up as he recalled conversations with GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell.
While the Rams moved on, Detroit embraced him—and he paid that belief back big-time. Since landing in the Motor City, Goff has helped lead the Lions to their first playoff win since 1992, and back-to-back NFC North titles. He’s become the face of a gritty, likable team that’s got fans dreaming of even bigger things.
Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes had nothing but praise for their quarterback during the Netflix series, and rightfully so. Goff’s journey from discarded QB1 to Detroit’s leader is the kind of redemption arc fans love to see.
So if you’re counting down the days to football season, Quarterback might just be the offseason fix you need—and Jared Goff’s story might be the heart of it.
Football may be on summer break, but Netflix just gave Lions fans something to hold them over.
