Former Detroit Lion Benched Big Time — 10 Games Off!

Isaiah Buggs Hits a Major Career Roadblock with 10-Game NFL Suspension

Isaiah Buggs, the former Detroit Lions defensive tackle, just got slammed with a 10-game suspension by the NFL for the start of the 2025 season. At 29 years old, Buggs hasn’t even played since June 2024 when the Kansas City Chiefs cut him loose — now, this suspension pretty much puts the brakes on any comeback dreams.

Once a solid pick from Alabama, Buggs spent a few years with the Steelers before joining the Lions and becoming part of their gritty defensive rebuild under coach Dan Campbell. Over five seasons, he appeared in 56 games and put up decent numbers — 89 tackles and a couple of sacks. But unfortunately, it’s not the football that’s making headlines.

Buggs’ career has been overshadowed by some serious off-field drama. Back in 2024, he was convicted of misdemeanor animal cruelty (he left two dogs unattended) and got slapped with 60 days of hard labor — though that conviction got overturned a few months later. But the bigger mess came with domestic violence charges tied to a violent incident in June 2024, where he allegedly broke into his child’s mother’s home and dragged her down the stairs. That led to his release from Kansas City.

He eventually took a plea deal that reduced those charges to criminal trespass. The NFL didn’t say exactly which part of Buggs’ history triggered the suspension, but their conduct policy means they don’t need a conviction to hand down punishments. The league just needs to feel the player crossed a line.

At this point, Buggs is probably looking at the end of the road in the NFL. He’s been out of the game for over a year and now has a long suspension hanging over his head — not exactly a resume that teams will fight over.

So yeah, what started as a promising career has been derailed big time by legal troubles and this latest NFL hit. For Buggs, the future looks pretty uncertain.
