Emmanuel Moseley’s time in Detroit didn’t go the way anyone hoped. After two tough seasons derailed by back-to-back ACL tears—one in each knee—it looked like the veteran cornerback might be facing an uphill climb back into the NFL. But a new opportunity might finally be on the horizon.
The Houston Texans just got hit with a surprise retirement, as veteran corner Ronald Darby informed the team he’s stepping away from football. That move opens up a spot in the Texans’ secondary, and Moseley could be a name to watch.
Houston already has a pair of starters in Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter, but they’re light on experience behind them. Moseley, though coming off multiple injuries, fits the bill as a low-risk veteran who still has upside if he can stay healthy. And while his time with the Lions was limited mostly to special teams in 2024, he did manage to get back on the field—a promising sign considering what he’s been through.
If the Texans want someone with experience to push Tremon Smith and rookie Jaylin Smith for depth duties, Moseley could make a lot of sense. It would be a solid opportunity for the former 49er to rebuild his value—something he never really got the chance to do in Detroit.
Let’s see if Houston makes the call—or if another team gives him the shot he’s been waiting for.
