Former Lions WR Donovan Peoples-Jones Gets Shot With Saints

While the Detroit Lions are busy launching their rookie minicamp this weekend, one familiar name is chasing a fresh opportunity elsewhere. Former Lions wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones is among 16 tryout players participating in the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp.

Peoples-Jones, who played college ball at Michigan, was traded to Detroit from the Cleveland Browns near the 2023 deadline. Though he saw limited action — five catches for 58 yards over eight games — he stuck with the Lions through 2024, spending the entire season on the practice squad after not making the 53-man roster.

Now 26 years old and celebrating two years of sobriety, Peoples-Jones is hoping to carve out a new role in New Orleans. The Saints’ receiver room features names like Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks, Cedrick Wilson Jr., and Rashid Shaheed, but the door remains open for players looking to prove themselves. For Peoples-Jones, this is a chance to reignite his NFL journey in what will be his sixth pro season.
